Over the past years I've seen the connection between the mind and the body manifest itself time and time again. I've been amazed by the results when my clients, deep in trance, released long held negative beliefs that affected their behavior and physical well being.
But I've hesitated talking about the healing I've observed, concerned about the
misconceptions and impossible expectations that people often attach to hypnotherapy.
So I was particularly excited after attending a three day workshop sponsored
by the Harvard Medical School, entitled "Spirituality & Healing In
Medicine." Under the direction of Dr. Herbert Benson, a "who's who" of
medical and spiritual practitioners spoke to the increasing acceptance and use
of so-called alternative interventions in the treatment of a wide range of illnesses.
Previously such gatherings have featured long-time advocates of the process such
as Dr. Andrew Weil, the heavily published author of many books on self healing,
and Carolyn Myss, the noted medical intuitive. But this seminar was vastly
different. Eminent medical doctors, world famous surgeons and internationally
recognized academics all took turns describing documented studies that made
the case for self-healing in conjunction with traditional medications and surgical
techniques.
I think it is safe to say, we no longer can dismiss the role our mind plays in
our own healing process. Undeniably there is a connection between the mind,
the body, and the spirit.
